Serving Bellflower for the past 70 years

Serving Bellflower for the past 70 years

It seems like it was just yesterday I would come to the shop as a kid and see my grandfather Leo and my Dad Joe working on cars and being amazed at what they could do. I started coming to work with my dad at about the age 8, helping clean the shop, learning how to take stuff apart....any maybe put stuff back together. I loved coming to work with my dad, every day was new adventure.  Cars have changed soooooooo much in the time I started coming here to today, not just a little but leaps and bounds.  When I was a kid I would change spark plugs, install and set points and adjust carburetors was a typical day.  Today we rarely do any of that, it's all about  computes, codes and wiring concerns.  Many cars and trucks now have over 10 control modules making your vehicle do what is suppose to do in the background, without you ever knowing it. My job now is more dealing with computer  circuits than it is basic mechanical concerns. The picture to t ... read more

Tech Tip Tuesday

Tech Tip Tuesday

Tech Tip Tuesday This simple tip can save you from having a accident and costing your thousands in costly body damage repairs $$$$$. Tire pressure is important for a number of reasons but today I am going to focus on just one. Take a look at the photo of how tire inflation effects how much of your actual tire is touching the ground. The more tire tread that is touching the ground the more traction you will have. We need all the traction we can get when it starts raining like it did last night. What is the proper tire pressure for my car? On most newer cars the tire pressure is posted on a sticker in the drivers door jam. Just open the drivers door and look for a sticker that says tire pressure. The sticker could be on the door itself or the body side of the door jam. Your owners Manuel will also have the correct tire pressure for your vehicle. On older vehicle a general rule is 32 - 34 psi of air pressure ... read more

Seeing Green

Seeing Green

We are seeing Green at Leo & Son Garage in Bellflower California. We just replaced the grass in the front of our facility with artificial turf, no more watering no more mowing just year round beauty. We have had replacing the grass on our to do list for some time now. Now it's done we love it. This grass should be virtually maintenance free, especially if dogowners clean up after their pets (fingers crossed). The days of loud mowers waking up our neighbors are gone. The days of over watering or under watering are gone. The cost of Water fertilizer and lawn mowing are gone for good. At leo and Son Garage we are always looking forbetter and more efficient ways of working on our customers cars and trucks day in and day out. Doing a better job is a ongoing battle to keep up with training , and having excellent staff to make the process work easy. My job as a manager is to make sure all the pieces work together and that includes the appearance of our facility. I h ... read more

Cool off now, pay later!!

Where has the year gone? The kids are almost out of school and summer is just around the corner. Summer always seems like it should be time to rest, but is it? If you have kids you arerunning around more in the summer than you do than you do the rest of the year. Keeping the kids entertained is hard work. This summer I have big plans for my oldest child, he is currently 15 and I found him his first car, the only problem is that it needs a engine. I want my son to know the value of a vehicle so we are going to replace the engine together in my spare time. I feel it will be a great learningexperience for him to do his own car repairs. At least that is the plan, he has no plans to follow his great grandfather, his grandfather and Dad in the family business of auto repair. My son is not necessary a hands on time of person...wish me luck. Summer is coming weather you are ready or not, How is the air conditioning in you vehicle? Is it time for some maintenanceto make it though the summer ... read more

He stayed with my family after his family was struggling with some issues so it was a big deal that he finished high school. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you g ... read more
